Full Description:

07_scanno03_scannoOriginated from an enormous landslide that fell down from Mountain Genzana, SCANNO LAKE is the most charming and the most visited lake in the entire Abruzzo. Located in the Province of L’Aquila at a height of 922 meters above the sea level, in the Apennines of Abruzzo north of Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo Lazio and Molise, is the largest natural lake in Abruzzo. On its southern shore there is the village of Scanno and on its northern shore there is the village of  Villalago. The Sagittario River flows out of the lake towards the North.

11_scanno13_scannoThe journey from the Coastline, passing from Sulmona to Scanno on the rocky mountainous road through the Sagittario Gorge, allowing you to delight your eyes with the magnificent and changeable panorama, is a beautiful touristic experience itself. Getting closer to the LAKE driving through the narrow serpentine roads with blind bends and steep rock walls descending on the route, which almost seem to be falling on you, the road eventually opens to give you the spectacular calm and relaxing view of the HEART SHAPED LAKE.

17_scanno18_scannoTime flies exploring the Lake and the surrounding area walking on the shore or through the mountainous paths or swimming in the crystal clear water or just chilling out in one of the available pedalos fishing, reading a good book or just watching peregrine falcons hawks and eagles soaring overhead before having a picnic lying on the grass or, if you prefer, booking a table in one of the several nearby restaurants. You can also spend some quality time riding a bike on the cycle track or horseback riding in the surrounding mountains… and don’t forget to step in the charming “Chiesa della Madonna del Lago”, an old characteristic Church perched over the Lake.
